Catrike Electric Conversion System – 48V 15Ah Battery

The current-generation E-BikeKit™ Catrike Conversion System uses the latest SINET™ platform with a 500W nominal rear hub motor, integrated sine-wave controller, full-color LCD, throttle-on-demand, locking e-brake levers, and your choice of cadence or torque-sensing pedal assist.

Because Catrike configurations vary by model and model year, this system is offered with customer-selected 20", 26", or 700C rear wheel sizes and 7-, 8-, 9-, or 10-speed freewheels. Select the configuration that matches your compatible trike before adding the system to your cart.

Who is this system for? Riders with a compatible Catrike who want a complete rear-wheel electric conversion system with matched SINET™ electronics and configurable wheel/drivetrain options. The total system load limit is 300 lbs.

Catrike models vary in rear wheel size and drivetrain configuration. This product uses required configuration selections so E-BikeKit can build the correct rear motor wheel for your order.

Your pedal-assist selection determines the sensor included:

• Cadence Sensor: Cadence-sensing pedal-assist components configured for the Catrike application
• Bottom Bracket Torque Sensor: SINET™ 68 mm square-taper torque-sensing bottom bracket with required SINET™ extension cable

Cadence Sensor

The cadence sensor detects crank rotation and activates pedal assistance according to the assist level selected on the LCD. Catrike crank and bottom-bracket configurations can vary, so the appropriate cadence-sensing hardware depends on the trike's crank configuration.

Some Catrike models use external-bearing bottom brackets. If your Catrike uses an external-bearing crankset, contact E-BikeKit with photos before ordering so we can confirm the appropriate pedal-assist hardware.

Bottom Bracket Torque Sensor

The optional SINET™ bottom bracket torque sensor measures rider effort and provides motor assistance in proportion to how hard you pedal, creating a smoother and more natural riding feel.

Important: If your Catrike uses an external-bearing bottom bracket or another crank configuration that is not compatible with the SINET™ 68 mm square-taper torque sensor, contact E-BikeKit before selecting the torque-sensor option.

The SINET™ Bottom Bracket Torque Sensor provides smooth, proportional pedal assist by measuring how much force you apply to the pedals. It provides a more natural riding feel than traditional cadence-only pedal assist, but installation is more involved.

Before selecting the torque sensor, please understand the installation requirements:

• Your bicycle or tricycle must have a compatible 68 mm bottom bracket shell
• The torque sensor is designed for use with square-taper cranks
• Both crank arms and the existing bottom bracket must be removed
• A 3/8-inch cable-routing hole must be drilled through the bottom bracket shell
• The torque-sensor cable is routed through the 3/8-inch opening
• The supplied rubber grommet seats in the opening to protect the cable and provide a clean finished installation
• Proper crank and bottom-bracket removal tools are required

Can I install the torque sensor myself?
Yes. If you are comfortable removing crank arms and a bicycle bottom bracket, installing a replacement bottom bracket, drilling the required 3/8-inch cable-routing hole, and completing the rest of the conversion, this installation can be performed by an experienced DIY installer.

We recommend reviewing the installation requirements and watching the installation video below before choosing the torque-sensor option so you can decide whether this is a job you are comfortable performing yourself.

Important: This video demonstrates installation on a compatible 68 mm square-taper bottom bracket. Some traditional upright tricycles use a one-piece crank and require additional crank-conversion components before the SINET™ torque sensor can be installed.

Before installation, confirm that your Catrike has an appropriate 2-inch round frame-tube mounting location and adequate clearance for the mounting bracket, SINET™ battery/controller cradle, and battery.

Catrike has produced different frame, rear-axle, crank, and drivetrain configurations. This conversion system is intended only for Catrikes with compatible slotted rear dropouts capable of accepting the E-BikeKit rear hub motor's 10 mm flat bolt-on axle.

Not compatible:

• Rear thru-axle configurations
• Rear dropout designs that cannot accept a 10 mm flat bolt-on axle

Before ordering, confirm:

• Your Catrike has compatible slotted rear dropouts for a 10 mm flat bolt-on axle
• Your required rear wheel size is 20", 26", or 700C
• Your drivetrain uses a compatible 7-, 8-, 9-, or 10-speed freewheel configuration
• Your frame and rear dropouts are in safe operating condition
• Your crank/bottom-bracket configuration is compatible with the pedal-assist option you select
• Your Catrike has an appropriate 2-inch round frame tube and sufficient clearance for the supplied battery mounting bracket, SINET™ battery/controller cradle, and battery

This is a configurable Catrike conversion system. Installation requires mechanical bicycle work and proper electrical-component mounting and routing.

• Confirm rear dropout compatibility with the 10 mm flat bolt-on motor axle
• Install the rear motor wheel in the selected 20", 26", or 700C size
• Verify correct operation of the selected 7-, 8-, 9-, or 10-speed freewheel
• Install and properly secure the supplied axle hardware and torque arm(s) as required
• Install the supplied 2-inch round frame-tube battery mounting bracket on a compatible 2-inch round frame tube with adequate battery clearance
• Secure the SINET™ battery/controller cradle
• Install the 48V 15Ah battery into the cradle
• Install the Topeak handlebar extender and SINET™ LCD
• Install the thumb throttle and locking e-brake levers
• Install the selected pedal-assist sensor using the correct components for the Catrike crank configuration
• Route all wiring away from steering components, tires, chain, drivetrain, and other moving parts
• Verify brake cutoffs, throttle operation, pedal assist, wheel clearance, drivetrain operation, steering movement, and display settings before riding

Professional bicycle-shop installation is recommended if you are not experienced with cranksets, bottom brackets, rear wheels, drivetrains, battery mounting, and electric conversion systems.
